Expectations are high: At the 84th running of the Le Mans 24 Hours, Schaeffler and Porsche intend to continue last year’s success. Before the year was out, Porsche, on clinching its 17th overall victory, extended its advantage on the all-time winners’ list that has been maintained since 1923. Two Porsche 919 Hybrid cars are competing in the iconic endurance race in France to come out winning in the battle of the various hybrid powertrain concepts of three automobile manufacturers. Schaeffler uses the cooperation with Porsche to further optimize its production technologies as well. Ideal prerequisites: The FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) makes extreme demands on durability – a parallel with the rough conditions found in the day-to-day use of automobiles. For decades both partners have been closely working together in racing and production development. Even the first Porsche production sports car, the 356, was equipped with Schaeffler needle bearings.
